This week is National Inclusion Week 2020 – 28 September to 4 October.
What is Inclusion?
Inclusion is a feeling of belonging, which is often a result of fair and equal opportunities (equality) as well as accepting and celebrating the differences of people and their behaviours, beliefs, and abilities (diversity).
In the business world, an inclusive workforce is where a diverse mix of people can come to work and feel like they belong. Employees will feel free to be themselves, which in turn will boost their confidence.
Why Does Inclusion in the Workplace Matter?
Apart from it being the right thing to do. Businesses that can create this culture, will find employees are likely to work better together and deliver the business needs effectively – adding value.
Sharing Stories
This is not always about race, religion, gender, disability, age and other protected characteristics. Personality based exclusion is often overlooked, yet very present in academic and workplace cultures.
A great way of raising awareness of this topic is by sharing stories. I am running a campaign this week to raise awareness across various social media platforms.
If you have any stories you would like to share, please get in touch or tag me in your own stories.
